COVID-19 Acknowledgment for Participants in California Western School of Law Programs of Study, Meetings, Events, or other Functions

Taking steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 is a shared responsibility. Mindful of this responsibility and the obligations set forth below, I desire to participate in a program of study, meeting, event, or other function (“Activity”), related to California Western School of Law (“CWSL”), where each time I am on campus or at any CWSL-related event it is considered an Activity. As a condition of my participation in any Activity:

1. I understand that the Centers for Disease Control, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, The State of California, The County of San Diego, and CWSL have issued, and may issue future rules and precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and that it is my responsibility to follow guidance when participating in any Activity in order to protect myself and others.

To be able to participate in an Activity, I understand I may be required to take steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including but not limited to wearing a face covering, testing, and social distancing. These measures may vary based on my vaccination status.

I understand that I may be denied access to or asked to leave an Activity for failing to comply with these rules and precautions. If I am a student, I understand such failure to comply with rules and precautions is a violation of the CWSL Code of Student Professional Conduct and could subject me to sanctions up to and including expulsion from CWSL.

2. I will not participate in any Activity if, in the prior 14 days to my arrival to the Activity, I: (i) have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and it is not at least 7 days after receiving a negative PCR test (test must be taken at least 5 days after diagnosis) (ii) have experienced any symptom of illness which may be associated with COVID-19, including fever, cough, or shortness of breath; (iii) have been in close contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or has exhibited any symptom of illness that may be associated with COVID-19, including fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

3. I acknowledge that these rules and precautions may or may not be effective in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and assume any and all risk that I will be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by participating in the Activity and understand that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, severe complications, permanent disability, and/or death.

4. I completely absolve CWSL, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and contractors of any and all legal or financial responsibility, including, but not limited to, any personal injury, disability, illness, damage, or death from exposure to COVID-19, whether such exposure occurs before, during or after an Activity. Also, I agree, on behalf of myself, my personal representatives and heirs, not to make any type of legal or equitable claim on CWSL, or any of its trustees, officers, employees, agents or contractors with respect to any exposure I may have to COVID-19, whether or not it arises through the negligence, omission, default or other action of anyone affiliated with the CWSL, including fellow students or other community members.
